PanPastel Challenge Blog – Challenge 17 – Anything Goes

Morning all, I hope that you are all  well and enjoying your Sunday. It’s time for a new challenge to start over at the PanPastel Challenge Blog this week the theme is Anything Goes and for a little bit of a change we have a different sponsor this week, the winner this week will receive 3 digi’s of their choice from LEJ Designs (me lol). Ok so for this anything goes challenge I thought I would do something a bit different……………

 

 

 

I am sorry I didn’t take any before photo’s but this was a nasty gaudy looking 70’s dining chair, the reason I didn’t take any before or during photo’s is because this was mostly just an experiment of mine to begin with  and I though if it turns out ok I will do another one but I just haven’t had the time. So  if you like I will do another one with step by step photo’s at some point but I will quickly talk you through it for now.

First I took the chair to piece’s and talked Luke in to sanding it down for me (hehe I don’t like sanding I always seem to manage to sand more of my hands than the item I am trying to sand). When all of the wood was sanded I used PanPastel mixed to a pale lilac colour and silver acrylic paint, I used two sponges (one for each medium to apply the colours applying a strong coat of PanPastel first and then a thin coat of the acrylic paint. I covered all of the wood this way and the great thing is with acrylic paint the drying time is not long at all. I then repeated the process on an old piece of brown velvet curtain material this time using magenta PanPastel and violet PanPastel and applying it so that some area’s were much bolder than others, using a very thin coat of acrylic paint across the entire piece of material (the acrylic paint seals the pastel colour in to the fabric). When the material was dry I used a staple gun to attach it to the original seat (stapling it in place on the underneath of the seat), obviously the texture of the material is now nothing like velvet and you end up with a very sturdy and durable seat. I then put the whole thing back together.
